Claude will apply invisible watermarks to AI-generated text and images

Anthropic has pledged to begin embedding machine-readable watermarks into content produced by Claude, marking both generated text and image files with digitally signed provenance metadata. The move is driven in large part by European AI transparency regulations, which now require that AI-generated content be identifiable as such — and Anthropic is positioning itself as an early mover in compliance.

The watermarking will follow the C2PA standard — a specification developed to attach verifiable origin data to digital media. What makes this significant isn't just the regulatory angle: it's the first major commitment by a frontier AI lab to systematically brand its own outputs, raising immediate questions about detection reliability, the limits of the standard, and what happens when watermarks are stripped.

Mathematics

The AI takeover of mathematics has begun

Oxford professor and Fields Medal winner James Maynard says he's spent the past year in genuine "soul searching" about the future of pure mathematics — a field that has historically been almost entirely immune to automation. AI systems are now capable of assisting with, and in some cases generating, mathematical proofs at a level that is forcing even the discipline's most decorated practitioners to ask hard questions about what original research will look like in the years ahead. The traditionally slow-moving world of academic mathematics is suddenly in a hurry to adapt.

AI & Society

Four takeaways from Mark Zuckerberg's massive AI manifesto

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg published a 6,500-word essay this week titled "The Future is for Everyone," laying out his sweeping vision for a future in which humanity and superintelligent AI coexist — and, in his telling, thrive together. The sheer length of the piece has drawn as much commentary as the ideas inside it, but beneath the ambitious framing are four concrete claims about what AI will change, who it will benefit, and how Meta intends to shape that transition. Whether you find the vision inspiring or alarming, it's the most detailed statement of intent any major tech CEO has published on the AI era to date.
